Where does Biogas land as a solution to mitigating food waste?
Food waste has a lot of value! The best way to mitigate food waste is to make less... but once you got waste, ask yourself, "Can someone eat it?" Many large institutional kitchens donate extra meals to people need. UMass and other universities are going a step further and diverting some of their waste food to an animal feed manufacturer in northern Connecticut.
If no one can eat the food, Biogas is a GREAT way to go! Biodigesters are so simple and low-tech, that you don't waste a lot of energy converting the food waste to methane.
What's more, you get "bioslurry" with every feeding, a nutrient-rich liquid fertilizer that's great for food crops, lawns and ornamentals.
